Short Description
This course will illustrate ways in which students can engage a variety of audiences with different kinds of film material, through festivals, exhibitions, pop up screenings etc. It will also provide students with the opportunity to develop their own skills in the presentation and writing for a variety of different exhibition sites, through blogs, catalogues, display cards.
Timetable
The course will be taught through a combination of seminar/workshops and compulsory film screenings of 10 sessions - this will mean 10 x 2 hours workshop seminar with an additional nominal screening time of 2 hrs dependent on films selected. An additional field trip/archive/festival visit will also be arranged over the semester.

Assessment
This course will be assessed in three ways:
A written essay based on issues raised throughout the course (60%) (5000 words)
A pitch document relating to a specific aspect of film curation or exhibition in one or more sites: e.g. an exhibition in a gallery; a film festival 'strand'; web resource; educational resource. (2000 words) (30%)
A short (10 min) presentation on the 'pitch' conducted mid-way through the course. (10%)
Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ encourage the acquisition of specific skills in the best practice of exhibition and public engagement of different audiences for a variety of film and media forms.
■ provide students with an opportunity to learn the most effective writing style for different contexts for e.g. in catalogues, blogs, display cards, 'pitch' documents for funding.
■ ask students to reflect on the best practice for film curation and exhibition in their own work and in the work of others.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ evaluate practical options for the most effective engagement of a range of different audience enhancing their experience of film and media exhibition and education.
■ apply principles of different modes of writing for different audiences and in different contexts relevant to the particular mode of exhibition or curation.
■ develop innovative models of activity in relation to different kinds of film and media exhibition and curation
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
