Short Description

This course introduces students to a selected sub-set of advanced manufacturing methods. It includes: micro and nano-manufacturing, pultrusion, composites and layered manufacture.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to:

■ Provide students with knowledge of a sub-set of advanced manufacturing processes

■ Provide students with the capability to design simple components and products that take full advantage of the manufacturing processes

■ Provide students with an ability to research and evaluate new and advanced manufacturing processes

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Describe the main features of a sub-set of advanced manufacturing processes

■ Undertake and justify the selection of a particular manufacturing process for a particular component or product

■ Design a simple component or product taking full advantage of the strengths of a particular manufacturing process

■ Research and describe an emerging or developing advanced manufacturing process and evaluate its capability and scope of application

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Timely submission of coursework assignment. Attendance at exam.
