Course Aims
The aim of this course is to:
■ Evaluate advanced data analysis methodologies and statistical approaches applied in finance,
■ Assess the suitability and limitations of quantitative techniques for addressing complex finance research questions.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of the course students will be able to:
1. Apply probability, statistical distributions, and descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to analyse financial and economic data, and formulate, conduct, and interpret hypothesis tests.
2. Apply regression techniques to estimate, interpret, and evaluate relationships between variables, including assessing model fit and predictive performance.
3. Analyse research questions and data structures to select, justify, and apply appropriate parametric, non-parametric, and Bayesian testing frameworks.
4. Analyse violations of ordinary least squares assumptions and justify the selection of appropriate alternative estimation methods.
