This course comprises lectures that help trainees to build on and extend their already acquired skills. There is specific material focused on helping trainees develop and display an appreciation for the full range of professional issues relevant to becoming an independent practitioner (e.g. becoming a supervisor, taking responsibility for personal development, engaging in leadership activities).
Trainees will attend lectures and workshops on topics of relevant to professional issues in clinical psychology practice.
Group presentation - 70%
Individual written report in scientific abstract style (up to 1000 words) - 30%
To build upon the Foundations course in Year I, and Professional Practice course in Years II
To develop appreciation of the whole range of professional issues in the transition to being an independent practitioner.
To consider the role transitions involved in moving to post-registration status including becoming a supervisor, taking responsibility for personal CPD, career development, contributing to clinical leadership activities, and taking on advanced practitioner status.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
All learning outcomes are benchmarked to the standards of proficiency and the competence frameworks stipulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate a high level of autonomy and initiative in professional activities and personal professional development.
Critically appraise the legislative and national planning context of service delivery and clinical psychology practice.
Synthesise and critically appraise the range of professional issues in the transition to becoming an independent practitioner.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
Students must satisfactorily demonstrate all learning tasks, placement activities, and evaluations to receive credit.
