Short Description
This course focuses on the paintings of three major artists whose long careers span much of the sixteenth century. Analysis of, and comparison and contrast between, the three painters' approaches to painting will be central to the course, which will also situate their practice within the wider context of Venetian and wider European art history and culture. The course will question, in particular, whether the paintings of the three artists can be taken as constituting a coherent and identifiable 'Venetian tradition'.
