University of Glasgow Staff Angling Club
There are two levels of membership open to University staff, namely General or Full.
General membership allows access to fishing permits to fish for brown trout in two good-sized hill lochs (Jaw & Cochno), in the Old Kilpatrick Hills, which are managed by the Hardgate & District Angling Club.
Members also have access to day-permits to fish for brown trout, salmon and sea trout amongst spectacular scenery in the varied and extensive waters controlled by the Loch Lomond Angling & Improvement Association.
Full membership includes General membership but also allows access to a privately-leased and well-stocked brown trout loch with two well-maintained boats. This very scenic loch has SSSI status and is fly-fishing only, from the boats (no bank fishing).
The Club Secretary also organises a number of club outings to a variety of fly-fishing venues, to stocked still- waters in the Central Belt, throughout the trout fishing season (15th March- 6th October).
The Club has three trophies that members compete for during the fishing season and are awarded annually for the best catch.
Membership of Glasgow University Staff Angling Club is available to all categories of salaried University staff.
If you are interested in joining, or require further information, please contact either the Secretary or Treasurer for further details

Professor Thomas Ferguson (1900-1977), Henry Mechan Chair of Public Health (1944-1964), bequeathed his estate to the University, with the instruction that the money should be used to foster the social side of University life. The Glasgow University Staff Angling Club acknowledges the generous financial support from the Ferguson Bequest which is very much appreciated by its members.
