If you are looking for the ideal location for academic study or a team away-session, The Burn near Brechin in Angus is just the place.

The Burn is a large Georgian mansion house set in a 200 acre private estate at the foot of Glen Esk in Kincardineshire (South Aberdeenshire).  Since 1950, The Burn has served the Scottish higher education sector as an academic retreat venue.  During the last 5 years, The Burn, like most universities, has modernised and improved its facilities whilst retaining many of the original historic features.

The Burn is now offering comfortable accommodation for up to 60 guests (in shared accommodation). The venue hosts a range of academic conferences but the main customers are academic study groups. The UofG's Director of the Senate Office, Dr Jack Aitken, continues to act as the University of Glasgow representative on The Burn Management Committee.

Best rate

As a member organisation, the University of Glasgow qualifies for The Burn's best rate which is currently just £56.25 (+VAT) per person per day for full-board accommodation.  This buys a bed (shared room), breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea & cake and dinner.  In addition, member guests can enjoy free use of all amenities and facilities including: WiFi, conference equipment, indoor and outdoor games and the freedom to exploring the 200 acre estate with its salmon river, SSSI area and ancient woodland.  Furthermore, The Burn is located on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms National Park and is the perfect base for hill walking and other country pursuits.
