A series of events to help you access the new funding now available in the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Following the announcement in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement of “a substantial increase in grant funding through Innovate UK”, the University is running a series of events to support staff in accessing this funding. These will include:

  • Peer-led grant writing masterclasses
  • Primers on various industries and the Innovate UK funding available
  • Knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) drop-in events, where you can find out if KTP could work for you

For details on events coming up in the next few weeks see www.gla.ac.uk/innovateukevents. Many more events are planned throughout 2017.

"A step change in R&D funding"

In total, the Chancellor announced a £4.7bn increase to research and development (R&D) funding over the rest of the Parliament, increasing to £2bn a year by 2020/21. This year the Innovate funding available is around £400m. The scale of this funding represents a step change in the UK R&D funding landscape, especially when considered alongside the current total RCUK budget of £3bn p/a. As a result, this new funding represents a significant opportunity for us to access new research funding by partnering with industry.

Details are beginning to emerge around 'challenge areas' that will form the focus for the new funding in the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. We should use this information to begin to ready ourselves. In recent years the University of Glasgow has increased the number of applications to Innovate UK and has begun to have some success in winning funding.
