The Bute Hall was full to capacity and the student bodies were in high spirits for the 2017 UofG Freshers’ Address.

The SRC’s Vice President for Student Activities Pritasha Kariappa, opened the event by welcoming new students and congratulating them on securing a place at the University.

Following on, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli took to the stage to welcome Freshers’ to ‘Hogwarts’ and ended his speech with the message: “If you ever need help or advice there are people to call on. Ask for help earlier not later.”

UofG Rector Aamer Anwar used his speech to pay tribute to Michael McGovern, who worked as a porter at the QMU for more than thirty years and died last month. Aamar said: “Michael devoted his life to students.”

Students also heard about the many activities and support on offer from the Presidents of all four student bodies – SRC, GUU, QMU and GUSA.
