The 108th Aberdeen versus Glasgow university senate golf match takes place on 9 June - the 108th running of the contest.

The annual fixture involving the two universities is believed to be the oldest, continuous senate, staff golf match in existence.

The first match was held in 1885 at Troon Golf Club, which was a win for the UofG. The second match was held two years later at Balgownie with the Aberdeen hosts taking a 17-hole victory. The senate matches have been played ever since, although there were inevitable gaps during the two, world wars of the 20th century, and the fixture was also disrupted by the national coal strike in 1921.

For the first time this year, the senatorial matxch has a sponsor in the shape of Aberdeen Asset Management.

Jamie Weir, emeritus pprofessor of radiology at the University of Aberdeen, is current President of the Aberdeen/Glasgow Senate Society.  He told MyGlasgow News: "It is a social event as well as a golf match, so it is a real mixture of abilities and ages.

"With 107 matches played to date, the difference between the two sides is really quite narrow with Glasgow having won five more matches. Obviously Aberdeen are hoping to change that over the next few years!"
