Do you know what sexual violence is?

Published: 14 February 2017

Would you know what to do if you – or a friend – was at risk of being assaulted? The SRC and Rape Crisis Scotland bring you a holistic workshop on preventing sexual violence.

Remember when you, the students of the University of Glasgow, asked for training in preventing sexual violence?

The University’s earlier Let's Talk and Full Stop campaigns voiced a need felt across the campus for prevention through education. Driven by that demand, the Students' Representative Council and Rape Crisis Scotland bring you a broad-based, holistic workshop: Let’s Talk About Sexual Violence.

Open to all

This workshop is for everyone: any age, gender, orientation, or level of prior knowledge, all are welcome. Each date is an open session so you do not even have to register in advance (though you can if you want).

What’s involved?

Designed for and delivered by UofG students, the 90-minute workshop is based on discussion and activity, and covers:

  • What is sexual violence?
  • Supporting survivors
  • Consent: what it is and how we practise it
  • Being an active bystander
  • Where to find support

Let’s Talk About Sexual Violence was first delivered in September 2016 to all the Freshers’ Helpers. Since then, the student trainers have run it for the Living Support Assistants in Murano Street Student Village and at open sessions throughout semester 1.

In January the trainers got together to tweak and improve the content based on participants’ feedback: that feedback indicated 94% rated the overall session as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’. All the participants thought the initiative would have a positive impact on the students of the University of Glasgow. The revised workshop will return from next week.
