Closure to come into effect on 18 March

The University’s Main Gate will close for six months to allow for the construction of a wider, safer, pedestrian crossing at the top of the hill on University Avenue.

Under this system, Pearce Lodge will be entry only, with no exit onto University Avenue.

Exit will only be available via the South Gate, onto Dumbarton Road. This gate will remain two-way, with cars also allowed to enter at this point.

Please note there will be no right turn when exiting onto Dumbarton Road.

The Main Gate will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists. Access via the Main Gate, Botany Gate and Chemistry Way will be maintained for high-sided vehicles and emergency services.

There will be restrictions on campus for high sided and large vehicles under the new traffic management arrangements. Authorisation for these vehicles to come on campus must be agreed in advance and will require contact with the gatehouse.

All routes will be clearly signed and there is a downloadable one way system map available outlining the temporary routes. Please familiarise yourself with this if you either need to drive to campus, or coordinate access with visitors.

This work is part of the University’s wider infrastructure changes to make our campus safer as a well as a more pleasant and vibrant place to live and work.

The work is being undertaken as the current crossings are at full capacity and, once the new buildings including the James McCune Smith Learning Hub open, they will no longer able to accommodate the pedestrians flows projected on Gilmorehill.
