From Church Street, passers-by can see the start of demolition of the former G-Block – the old ward building of the Western Infirmary.

The University reviewed the feasibility of retaining this building as part of its Campus Development masterplan and concluded that the former G-Block building was not suitable for reuse as part of an efficient modern University campus and that its position on site was not conducive to creating the desired environment and civic space.

However, it should be noted that the University is retaining the following A-Listed buildings on the site: Outpatients; the Elder Memorial Chapel; Anderson College; the McGregor Building; and the Tennent Institute.
