Friday 3rd October 2014

The Conservation Volunteers

Cart and Kittoch Valleys - Site of Special Scientific Interest

This site is located between Rutherglen and Busby (grid reference NS581575), an approximate travel time of 20 to 40 minutes, and is an example of upland mixed ash woodland. It is one of the largest areas of semi-natural woodland in the greater Glasgow area comprising of a deciduous woodland with diverse ground flora. The task would be to remove beech and sycamore saplings, some of which would need to be felled with a hand saw, to increase opportunities for the flora to spread.

Knocknairs Hill - Site of Special Scientific Interest

This site is located between Greenock and Port Glasgow (grid reference NS305742), an approximate travel time of 30 minutes, and is a mixture of Fen and Grassland. The task would be to remove gorse from the area to reduce its spread providing greater opportunities for other species found there, some of which are nationally scarce.

The afternoon of the 8th October 2014 (Max 6 volunteers)

Cornerstone

Cornerstone is looking for volunteers to help an art group paint props and backdrops in the run up to a performance in Airdrie town hall in the evening of the 26th November 2014.

The University will arrange for volunteers to go in a group to Airdrie to help out in the run up to the event – but will unfortunately, not be able to provide transport to the performance itself.  Staff who would like to attend the performance can, of course, do this in their own time.

The afternoon of the 22nd October (Max 6 volunteers)

If you are a member of university services and are interested in taking part, please email cara.macdowall@glasgow.ac.uk or volunteer-programme@glasgow.ac.uk
