Digging for Victory!

Once again the sun shone for the University Services volunteering scheme last week.

Once again the sun shone for the University Services volunteering scheme writes Cara MacDowall.  25 volunteers have taken part in the programme over the past week, giving their time with the Conservation Volunteers.  Staff helped clear public pathways in Paisley on a nature reserve - Jenny's Well - and planted and crowned trees in the Children’s Wood on the North Kelvin Meadow situated just off Queen Margaret Drive.Volunteering group shot at Jenny's Well, Paisley Aug 2014

Feedback on the day has been overwhelmingly positive with staff saying it was fun and that they would definitely volunteer again.

Many cited working outside and the weather while others said it gave them a sense of achievement.‌

Some said that the physical aspect of the work was what they had enjoyed as well as meeting others from across University services.Volunteering in North Kelvin Meadow's Children's wood.

Cara MacDowall, previously in the Communications Office, has now been seconded to Court Office and is co-ordinating the programme.

If you would like to volunteer for the University Services volunteering scheme, we will be arranging a couple more events over the coming months with the Conservation Volunteers.  The partnership with Cornerstone is still in development but there should be an opportunity to volunteer with them before Christmas.

If you would like to volunteer and are part of University Services, contact Cara directly on 0141 330 7761 or email cara.macdowall@glasgow.ac.uk or contact the volunteer committee by emailing volunteer-programme@glasgow.ac.uk
