Congratulations have been sent to British Olympic curler Lauren Gray, the University of Glasgow student who graduated with a 2:1 in English Literature and Politics on the same day as she was formally selected for the Winter games in Sochi. Lauren was a member of Eve Muirhead's Olympic bronze medal winning rink.‌

Lauren GrayThrough Lauren’s exceptional performance at the Scottish National Junior and Senior Championships in January 2013 she was invited to join Eve Muirhead's team as alternate for the World Championships (which Scotland won) and then the Sochi Games.

Euan Smith, Assistant Director, Sport & Recreation, said: "Lauren has only been able to realise her ambitions with the assistance of senior staff at the University who allowed her to undertake her final year coursework after her exams last summer. It gave her a proportionate amount of time to study for exams and complete her coursework and is an excellent example of how student athletes at the University can successfully manage high performance sport with academic excellence."

Lauren started curling at the age of 8, and her first big opportunity was being selected for the Youth Olympic Games in 2009 in her final year of High School.  Her curling career picked up when she won gold at those games.
