The first University of Glasgow Bake Off proved a resounding success: no half-baked theories here!

The first University of Glasgow Bakeoff proved a resounding success.

The Relevance was determined by a 50 word description of how the research fitted with the cake. There were eight (research?) cakes from across the schools and more than 50 people turned up on the night in the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club.

The judges were Elizabeth Adams, Mhairi Stewart and Jamie Gallagher, the University's Public Engagement Officer. The winner was Emma Wisniewski-Barker (physics) with her cake representing light travelling through ruby and second place was Helmi Kreinin (chemistry) with her fluorescence spectroscopy cake.

The winner won a meal at Ubiqitous Chip and two tickets to Glasgow science centre and the runner up got two tickets to the science centre.

Jamie Gallagher said: "While the event is primarily social and fun it does give s the opportunity to look at our research in a different way, to visualise it and be creative about it. It also brought a great group of folk together who got a glimpse into what research is carried out in different schools. We had physics, literature, philosophy, parasitology and more!"
