University offers a cultural fusion for the Chinese New Year celebrations...and a social media video hit.

University of Glasgow staff and students have been celebrating the Chinese New Year - the year of the Horse - with a fusion of cultures.

A video especially made for the occasion drew big hits after being boosted on social media sites, including China's own Sina Weibo. It was aimed at applicants, alumni and followers on our social networks.

On Campus, the Chinese New Year celebrations, hosted by the Confucius Institute, included a fusion with Scottish culture at a Chinese Burns Supper (you'll notice the piper in the video).

Communication's Ger Malcolm put the video montage together and Sophia Yu, a club21 intern, helped with the filming.

Emma Gilmartin, the University's Social Media Officer said: "We wanted to create a personal message for our Chinese family direct from campus, especially to show prospective Chinese students considering making the University of Glasgow their study place of choice, that they would be joining a vibrant, diverse and warm community at Glasgow.

"The video demonstrates the fusion of cultures and how students can come to the University of Glasgow but still enjoy a taste of home."
