University announces an extra day of festive cheer...and book a slot at a Senate Assessors' surgery.

HR confirm an additional Christmas holiday

Acting Director of Human Resources, Christine Barr, has announced an additional University holiday during this year's Christmas and New Year break.

The public holidays for 2013 fall in the middle of the week: the first normal working day following the festive season would therefore have been Friday 3 January 2014.  Following discussion with the Senior Management Group, it has been agreed that the University will re-open instead on Monday 6 January 2014.

Christine said: "I am pleased to advise that Friday 3 January 2014 will be treated as an additional day's leave for staff.  A day's leave may be taken at another time for those who are required to work on this day (i.e. Security Staff, etc. ), subject to operational requirements. Payment for time worked on this day will be at plain time.

"Can I remind you that the University will be open for business as usual until 5pm on 23 & 24 December 2013. Should any member of staff wish to request annual leave for either of these days they should seek authorisation through the normal procedure."

Senate Assessors' Surgery - Monday 7 October - appointments available

Senate appoints a number of its members to the University Court - the 'Senate Assessors'.  The Assessors play a key role in helping to inform the University Court of the views of the wider University community.

In order to help ensure the Assessors themselves are aware of issues concerning staff, the Assessors now hold regular surgeries in advance of each meeting of Court.   These will take place on the Monday of the week of Court and any member of University staff may make an appointment to speak to the Assessors.

The next surgery is scheduled for Monday, 7 October 2013 from 1.00 - 2.30pm, with each appointment slot being 20 minutes long.

The Senate Assessors available on this occasion will be Dr Donald Spaeth and Professor Karen Lury.
