This year the Careers Service was given the unique opportunity to produce and publish The Careers Guide for the first time. Lesley McKay, Business Relations Manager for the Service takes up the story. "We were really excited to be offered the chance to produce our very own Guide, written and published by ourselves. We could immediately see the potential for getting a publication that could appeal to our students and employer partners. It was a fantastic opportunity to show what we could do."

Kirsty Kilgour, the International Opportunities Administrator with the Careers Service, said: “We ran a number of focus groups with students from all levels about the desirability of a guide and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive in terms of its content and value to students, staff and employers. After that, we decided to go ahead and produce the guide in house. The result is a high quality publication that promotes our services to staff, students and employers and provides our students, both prospective and current, with essential advice about career planning and opportunities.”

Dr Archie Roy, one of the editors, adds "The Guide's uniqueness is that it has something for everyone.  From making your time at  Glasgow count to finding the right job and getting hired, it's all between two very glossy covers!"

The editors were Dr Archie Roy and Shirley Sayer who are Careers Advisers and Magdalena Zdrojewska from the Student Services Communications Team.  Lesley McKay and Kirsty Kilgour from the Careers Service's Business Relations team were responsible for advertising and the guide was designed by Fiona Sneddon.

Five thousand printed copies have been produced and will be widely distributed to students at careers talks in schools and colleges and at Careers Service appointments in the Fraser Building.  They will also be distributed at all Careers Service fairs throughout the year.

As well as the hard copy version, the University of Glasgow Careers Guide can be seen here:
