BBC Radio 4's Daily Service broadcasts from Wellington Church and other events, news and announcements.

BBC Radio 4 visits the University

BBC Radio 4’s Daily Service will come live from Wellington Church on University Avenue on Monday 21 October. The service from 0945-1000 will be conducted by Rev Dr Doug Gay, lecturer in Practical Theology, and will feature Glasgow University Chapel Choir.

The programme’s producer in Scotland, Mo McCullough, says; “The Daily Service has been running for more than 80 years, and comes from locations around the UK.  Glasgow University Chapel Choir has made wonderful contributions to our broadcasts for many years and I am proud to include the Choir regularly in Scottish editions of this and other programmes which reflect the excellence of Scotland’s musical life.”

The programme can be heard on BBC Radio 4 198 Long Wave, on Digital Radio, and shortly after the broadcast on the BBC iPlayer for 7 days.

You are warmly invited to join the special roundtable discussion reflecting on a report focussed on the experiences of nearly 50 British women of all ages, ethnicities, backgrounds and faiths (or no faith) – who have all converted to Islam. We shall also be exploring the questions it raises from a Scottish perspective.  

Glasgow Medical School graduate to receive prestigious HealthWatch prize

Claire Wood, who has just graduated as a student of medicine at the University of Glasgow, is to receive a cheque for £500 as joint first prize winner in the UK-wide HealthWatch competition in which students are invited to show their skills in assessing research protocols.
 
Claire, 25, of Stirling, will receive her award from journalist and broadcaster Nick Ross at an awards ceremony to be held at The Medical Society of London on Thursday 24th October. The presentation of the student awards will form part of an evening programme which will also include a presentation by Fiona Godlee, editor of the British Medical Journal.

HealthWatch1 is a UK medical charity which promotes the proper scientific testing of all types of medical treatments, from orthodox to complementary and alternative medicine.

University Chapel Remembrance Service

All members of the University are invited to attend the Remembrance Service in the University Chapel on Sunday 10 November 2013 at 10.45am.

Those wishing to join the academic procession are requested to assemble in the ForeHall by 10.30am. Academic Dress (gown and hood plus dark tie for men) will be worn on this occasion.

It is important that all wishing to join the procession should email Irene Aitken in the Senate Office (irene.aitken@glasgow.ac.uk ) by Friday 1  November 2013 in order that an appropriate number of seats can be reserved.
