A large and appreciative crowd attended a special lecture given in the Bute Hall by Lord McConnell of Glenscorrodale on “Livingstone’s Legacy: Lessons for Today” on Thursday 28 February.

The lecture was preceded by a video message of support from Archbishop Desmond Tutu and followed on from an equally successful symposium held on Monday 25 February during which international experts from  the World Health Organisation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, St George’s University of London, Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Glasgow discussed historical and contemporary issues surrounding health and infectious diseases in Africa within the context of the extraordinary life of Dr Livingstone.

During both events a special DVD charting Livingstone’s life, the impact that he had and his enduring legacy in areas such as research into tropical medicine was played. Copies of the DVD were given out to guests and to schools, and has also aired on the STV website.
