Professor Tokatlidis elected as member of EMBO

Professor Kostas Tokatlidis who holds the Cathcart Chair in the Institute of Molecular Cell and Systems Biology, has been elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).

Prof Tokatlidis joins 51 other outstanding researchers who have been newly-elected to the organisation which promotes excellence in the life sciences.

The goals of EMBO are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulate exchange of scientific information, and help build a European research environment where scientists can achieve their best work.

Prof Tokatlidis said: “This is an extremely prestigious election. It recognises our dedicated and long-standing efforts and seminal findings on the fundamental mechanisms of how the cell’s powerhouses – mitochondria – assemble and function.

“There are currently around 1600 EMBO members and 59 Nobel laureates amongst the membership and I am delighted to be now among them.”
