A round up of news and events from Universitas 21. The University of Glasgow is a founder member of U21, an international association of research-based universities committed to working together.

ECR Conference, Tec de Monterrey on 2-3rd December 2013: ‘Innovative Technologies: From Research to Impact on Society’ Congratulation to two Early Career Researchers from Glasgow who will attend the annual U21 Conference in Mexico: Dr. Christopher Bunn, Research Associate at Institute of Health and  Wellbeing, and Dr. Philip Habel, Lecturer in Political Communication at School of Social and Political Sciences.

Opportunities for International Advising of Ethiopian Graduate Students in Water and Health.  The Ethiopian Institute of Water Resources at Addis Ababa University and the University of Connecticut are seeking faculty staff to serve as international research advisors to our MS and PhD students in our Water and Health graduate programme. Faculty research advisors will mentor students through on-going online collaboration. The graduate program is part of a partnership between Addis Ababa University and the University of Connecticut supported by a USAID program for higher education development in Ethiopia. Fudan’s visiting scholars initiative. Fudan has developed an innovative programme to encourage scholars from U21 partners to spend some time in Shanghai, collaborating with colleagues at Fudan University. This is a wonderful opportunity to enable staff to work in China and build links with Fudan, through the umbrella of U21. Details of the scheme are available from Sarah.Ward@glasgow.ac.uk. The U21 Teaching & Learning Conference was held at UCD, from 31 October - 1 November 2013, with the theme ‘Teaching & Learning in the Digital Age: Opportunities and Challenges for U21’ Presentations from the recent Teaching & Learning Conference are available here

The U21 Global Citizenship Workshop 2014  The workshop will take place on 13-14 March 2014 at University of Nottingham’s Malaysia campus, immediately before the UPAIE conference in Seoul. The workshop will explore our current understanding and approach towards promoting ‘Global Citizenship’ within the student body. It will then specifically address the question of how a global university network can develop activities that support partner organisations in enhancing student engagement with an understanding of Global Citizenship.
