Dates for UGPS information roadshows

Published: 25 July 2013

Dates and venues have now been confirmed for information roadshows for members and potential members of the University of Glasgow Pension Scheme (UGPS). Posters are also on campus with full information.

Roadshows to offer more information about proposed changes to the University of Glasgow Pension Scheme (UGPS) get underway this month.

Earlier this year the University Court accepted proposals put forward by an expert working group tasked with advising on how best to provide a sustainable pension scheme for staff into the future, whilst protecting the generous benefits of existing members at an affordable cost. The roadshows are aimed at explaining the proposed changes and how they might impact on members and potential members.UGPS Poster

The University has also clarified some of the details made available last month. The information concerned refers to the ability to take an unreduced pension from age 60. The position can now been confirmed as this:

The ability to take an unreduced pension from age 60 will be removed for future service. For staff retiring from age 60, pension accrued in respect of service up to the date of the change would still be payable without reduction.

The consultation process on the proposed changes to UGPS is continuing and will not end until 20 September. Much of the engagement involves the relevant campus trade unions including Unison, Unite and GMB.

Roadshow presentations have been organised and are planned for the month of August in order to explain the changes that are likely to come into force.  Details of these sessions are as follows:

  • Thursday 8 August                   0800 hours      Lecture Theatre G466, Main Building
  • Wednesday 14 August            1000 hours      Garscube, McCall Lecture Theatre
  • Thursday 15 August                1400 hours      Lecture Theatre G466, Main Building
  • Tuesday 20 August                  0800 hours      Lecture Theatre G466, Main Building

If there is a demand for additional roadshows, these will be organised.

UGPS members, and potential members are being encouraged to take the opportunity to attend one of these sessions in order to learn more and to get the opportunity to ask questions and to respond to the consultation process.
