A new, student safety poster campaign has been revealed aimed at tackling two common causes for concern: assaults on male students and property thefts from female students.

The University’s Central Services and the Students’ Representative Council have combined to produce the posters which are intended to raise awareness. Fist poster

The poster concepts were the result of brainstorming in a personal safety group coordinated by Gordon Mackenzie, the University’s Head of Security and Central Services and involving the SRC, Student Services, Student Residences, Corporate Communications, Estates and Buildings and Police Scotland.Poster of a handbag

Gordon Mackenzie said: “Our campus has a very good safety record for students, but we are never complacent about this. We also work to try to keep students aware of risks when they are socialising off-campus. Working with the local police, we identified that assaults on males aged 18-21 and thefts of property belonging to females in the same age category, remain a cause for concern.  Our poster campaign is aimed at trying to raise awareness of the dangers that can attend a night out.”

The campaign has been timed to coincide with the post-examination period.
