Commencement of Retrospective Checking – Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme

The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 came into effect on 28 February 2011 and created a membership scheme to replace the previous Disclosure Scotland checking system for individuals who work with children and/or protected adults.

Until now, the University has been required to carry out PVG checks only for new staff appointed to Regulated Positions, however Disclosure Scotland has announced that the Retrospective Checking process for existing staff will commence at the end of October 2012.  The University therefore proposes to commence retrospective checking with effect from Monday, November 26th 2012.

Retrospective checking will be phased over a 3 year period and College HR Teams will shortly be writing to all staff members whose posts fall within the scope of Regulated Positions for the University of Glasgow.  Phase 1 of the University’s Implementation Plan will apply only to posts within University Services.
