A guest lecture by Professor Richard Sennett (LSE and NYU) on the 22nd February will mark the beginning of a new series lectures in honour of the work of Professor David Frisby.

David Frisby was a highly-respected scholar and a popular lecturer in the Department of Sociology in this university for thirty years. His work included pioneering investigations into all aspects of the experience of life in the modern city as well definitive accounts of the work of key writers in the field of German social theory, many of whom became familiar to an English speaking audience largely as a result of his translations and expositions.

The lecture on Wednesday 22nd February will take place at 4.30 p.m. in the Adam Smith Lecture Theatre, on the top floor of the Adam Smith Building. All are welcome to attend and to join us for drinks afterwards.

The David Frisby Memorial Lectures aim to bring leading figures from the social sciences across the world to speak at Glasgow. They are funded in part by a very generous donation from Prof. Frisby’s widow Tanya, for which we are extremely grateful.
