July saw a variety of University research and news make it into the media, even in the quiet period of the summer holidays and Glasgow Fair fortnight.

Amongst the highlights are:

  • A study showing that crime in a locality is linked to the number of off-licences in the area
  • Research that indicates that traditional passport pictures may be useless in identifying individuals
  • Recognition for Glasgow’s involvement in the search for the Higgs boson in newspapers and on TV and radio
  • The development of a nutritional pizza constituted a big slice of the coverage this month too

There was extensive coverage in newspapers and on BBC about efforts to pinpoint the exact location of the Battle of Bannockburn. There was also some publicity for a University spin-out firm, Mode Diagnostics attracting £1m of investment to develop medical diagnostic equipment for use in the home. The purchase of a £2m electron microscope also attracted some attention.

Internationally, there were 871 articles, including extensive coverage on the nutritional pizza and passport pictures stories.

The team at corporate communications is always happy to meet with individuals, or groups of colleagues, to discuss possible stories or just to explain how we might work together.  Please get in touch on 0141 330 3535 or email us media@glasgow.ac.uk
