Glasgow Uni FC has qualified for the first round of the Scottish Cup, scheduled to play Cove Rangers on 24 September

Glasgow Uni FC has qualified for the first round of the Scottish Cup.  They will play Cove Rangers on 24 September, 3pm at Garscube Sports Centre on Maryhill Road.

Last year, the team drew Burnt Island Shipyard in the first round of the cup; one of the only other amateur teams in the competition.  The score was 0-0 right up to the last minute when Glasgow Uni FC scored the winning goal.  In the second round they met Beith Juniors away from home where their run came to an end.

Captain of the team, Neil Buchan said “The Scottish Cup is always a massive game for the club, and a highlight of the season calendar.  All of the squad are looking forward to the match and are prepared for a very tough test.  Cove are certainly the favourites for the tie.  There is a real belief in the camp, however, that we can cause an upset and reach the second round for the second year in a row”.

The team have been working with GUSA and the GU to make the game as accessible as possible.  Free buses will take supporters from the GU’s Beer Bar to the game at Garscube Sports Centre. Ticket prices have been kept to a minimum as well, with concessions £1 and adults £5.  Tickets are available from the GU Beer Bar, the reception at the Stevenson Building and Garscube.  They will also be available on the day.
