Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology public engagement coordinator Dr Tansy Hammarton is a finalist in the STEMNET awards

Tansy Hammarton Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology public engagement coordinator Dr Tansy Hammarton is a finalist in the national Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET) Awards for 2011.

STEMNET’s aim is to create opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. One of three finalists in the most dedicated STEM Ambassador award category, Dr Hammarton will attend the awards ceremony to be held at the House of Lords on Tuesday 13th December. The ceremony will be attended by parliamentarians, schools representatives, businesses and partner organizations.

Prof Dave Barry, Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology said “This is a great honour for Dr Hammarton and for our Centre’s public engagement programme.  She inspires young people by explaining very clearly how parasites cause their dreadful diseases, and well merits this recognition.”
