Glasgow Changing Futures

About the survey

  • It is open to all staff
  • It should take approximately 15-20 to complete
  • It is open between Wednesday, 27th May and Wednesday, 24th June
  • Your responses will be anonymous

The survey will be complemented by interviews and focus groups to capture perceptions and experiences across disciplines, roles, and career stages.

It is part of the efforts to examine the conditions that enable and sustain collaborative work, existing barriers, and where creative and innovative practices are already emerging.

Insights from this work will inform how we design and support existing and future collaborative initiatives across the institution in later phases of the research.

The survey will close on 24th June with the first insights presented in autumn.

Collaboration is central to our values as an institution and to our strategic priorities. The University is about to launch a new research strategy, which guides the ambition to transform lives through ideas and actions. Central to this is collaboration, unlocking creativity and supporting people and teams to succeed in collectively advancing knowledge, addressing challenges, driving impact, and positively changing futures.

Through this survey, GCF is particularly interested in collaboration across difference: working across disciplines, roles, areas of expertise and sectors, both within the University and with partners beyond it.

The aim is to understand what helps these collaborations happen, what makes them difficult, and what kinds of support would make collaboration more possible, meaningful and sustainable. This work is not just concerned with collaborations that have worked well, but also with collaborations that have been difficult to develop, hard to sustain, or unable to progress as hoped.

The findings will support an evidence-informed approach to implementing the research strategy, directly shaping initiatives to help build a future-ready, globally connected institution through both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research, strong partnerships, and a thriving research culture.

This survey forms part of ‘Towards the University of the Future’ – a research project within the Collaborative Futures strand of Glasgow Changing Futures. It is the first stage of a wider programme of research and engagement on collaboration across difference, which will also include interviews and focus groups with colleagues across disciplines, roles and career stages. This work aims to build a rich understanding of how collaboration currently happens at UofG, what enables or constrains it, and how we can strengthen the support, structures and cultures that help it flourish.
