CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The aim of this inaugural meeting is to establish a network of music research in Scotland in order to improve communication and collaboration across institutions. We understand ‘music research’ in its broadest and most inclusive sense, including scholarly, empirical and practice-based research related to all and any forms of music, carried out within and outwith dedicated music departments or subject units. We welcome all music researchers based in Scotland, from PhD students to emeritus professors or unaffiliated researchers. Because we primarily want to encourage networking and open discussion, we are looking for position statements (10 min max), panels or round tables and object-focused group discussions or the like, rather than formal papers. If there is sufficient interest, we aim to hold regular events thereafter.

There are travel bursaries available of up to £100 for graduate students and £50 independent researchers generously funded by the Royal Musical Association.

Please make any submissions and applications for travel bursaries (if applicable) on our portal. The deadline is 1 June 2026; responses will be sent out shortly thereafter.

Programme committee: Stephen Broad (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), Edward Campbell (University of Aberdeen), Björn Heile (University of Glasgow), Jonathan Hicks (University of Aberdeen), Elaine Kelly (University of Edinburgh), Zack Moir (Edinburgh Napier University), Clair Rowden (University of Glasgow), John Williamson (University of Glasgow) and Vera Wolkowicz (University of Glasgow).

For any questions or comments, please contact Björn Heile, bjorn.heile@glasgow.ac.uk.
