From unicorns and basilisks to mockingjays and nifflers, fantastic beasts and impossible creatures are often among our favourite things about made-up worlds. But the authors who invent these weird animals are often inspired by real-life nature every bit as strange!

If you're aged 12–16 and fancy writing fantasy, join us for a free writing workshop in the Hunterian Zoology Museum, where you'll get a chance to learn about some bizarre creatures and then create your own!

Experts will be on hand, refreshments will be provided and you'll be given everything you need to invent a brand new species. Will it be a friend or a foe? Come and find out!

Younger siblings are welcome with the grown-ups and there will be something for them to do too.

Facilitators:

Will Tattersdill writes and teaches about the relationship between science and popular culture at the University of Glasgow. He is currently working on a book about the history of dinosaurs and has co-written a kids’ fantasy adventure gamebook.

Jordan Kistler researches the use of narrative in museum spaces and teaches fantasy, science fiction, and gothic literature at the University of Strathclyde.

Book your place via Eventbrite.
