The Women Researchers Enterprise Network (WREN) at the University of Glasgow was set up as a “stepping stone towards empowering women to help create a more equal society”.
The group, which champions women-led research and innovation, has been hosting a series of speakers in recent months to inspire women researchers to think about entrepreneurship and innovation.
Its latest event is on Wednesday 27 March 4-5.30pm in The Advanced Research Centre, when Mary Canning from Epidarex and Sarah Hardy from Archangels will discuss the differences between venture capital and Angel investing.
As well as inspiring, WREN provides a platform for members to share ideas and communicate, while offering support and advice.
A spokeswoman Rachel Colman said: “The network has been hosting a series of speakers, including women researchers who have founded companies.
“We are hearing from the individuals about their motivations and experiences of setting up a company and what’s involved.
“We are also planning to host investors in women-led enterprises and grant funders with a focus on encouraging women-led innovation.
“Men as well as women are welcome to attend, and we are also welcoming any suggestions for speakers and topics for discussion.
“We are really looking forward to the talk by Mary Canning from Epidarex and Sarah Hardy from Archangels.
“They will provide tips as to what they are looking to invest in and tell us about what the investment community is doing to invest more in women-led enterprises.”
WREN is not exclusively for researchers who intend to set up a business but is also for anyone who wants to consider ways in which their research might be developed into innovative products or services of use to industry or wider society.
