Extreme heat/cold and humidity indoors can have a significant impact on physical and mental health, but a poorly insulated home means maintaining a healthy living environment can become a financial burden. The Sensor-Enhanced Housing Survey by the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) and The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) combined sensor measurements with interviews and surveys to understand living conditions and behaviour change during extreme heat in London in 2023.
This initial work will be expanded by the UBDC as part of a collaboration with UCL and the Understanding Society Innovation Panel late 2024 to create longitudinal data for 200 – 300 households linking sensor data, smart-meters and socio-demographic data.
In this webinar, we will discuss the dataset from TBIJ project, how it can be used, and future developments for the data. We will also discuss research findings from this work to date.
