Join award-winning band The Tenementals on a musical journey through Glasgow's social history, our closing event for this year's Explorathon festival.
Fresh off their triumph at the 2023 Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival, the band, who are a mix of experienced academics and musicians, present "A History of Glasgow in Song", a captivating blend of music, storytelling, and history - especially for Explorathon.
Following a dynamic summer that included standout performances at events such as the Glasgow Hidden Lane Festival, a memorable collaboration with Mick Lynch at The Revelator Wall of Death, and a resounding show at Queen's Park bandstand for May Day, The Tenementals are geared up to deliver their award-winning musical odyssey through Glasgow's vibrant history.
The band will be supported by Chemical, a major hip-hop artist from Tanzania who is currently resident in Scotland. Claudia Lubao is currently completing her PhD at the University of St Andrews in how Tanzanian popular music can be used to communicate socio-cultural and scientific issues including climate change.
The event will be introduced by Prof Johnny Rodger, writer, critic, and Professor of Urban Literature at The Glasgow School of Art.
Thanks to Explorathon funding from the UKRI's Guarantee Fund (EP/X021246/1) , admission to this event is offered at no cost.
Doors open 7pm. First act begins 7.20pm. Over 18s only.
Places are limited for this event. If you book a ticket and can no longer attend, please cancel so that someone can take your place.
