In partnership with Explorathon 2023, celebrate maths with this selection of winning entries from our Scottish-wide photo competition, *maths inside*. Discover the maths all around us, from ancient self-supporting building methods to cube stacking in modern architecture, dive into nature’s self-similar fractal patterns and learn about the mathematical abilities of dolphins. Find the ‘why’ behind a violin’s sound and bend light to unblur vision. Also featuring creative solutions to the 2022 *complete the pattern* challenge.
Open to everyone in Scotland, *maths inside* is run by the University of Glasgow School of Mathematics & Statistics. Normally taking place during Maths Week Scotland (25 Sep–1 Oct 2023), entrants are asked to search, question, and find the maths in their daily lives; and to catch its beauty in a photo, title, and commentary.
This workshop is part of the Explorathon festival, funded by the UKRI Horizon Europe Guarantee Fund.
