We would be delighted to welcome you to the annual Dragon Boat Festival 2023, presented by the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow and in partnership with Nankai University in Tianjin, China.

Attendees can expect a fun evening of arts and crafts, live music, presentations, Chinese calligraphy and language, traditional tea ceremony, sticky rice dumpling making and more!

The event is designed to introduce the culture and history of this traditional Chinese holiday known as Duanwu Jie (端午节). With a rich tradition and diverse origins, the modern-day Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated in China by eating Zòngzi (粽子), racing Dragon Boats and taking part in activities designed to ward away bad luck in the fifth lunar month!

This year the event will take place in the Kelvin Gallery (Gilbert Scott Building, University of Glasgow, G12 8QQ) which is next to the Hunterian Museum. Entry to the venue can be made at the Gilchrist entrance, taking the lift or stairs to the fourth floor. There is also an accessible lift and route through the Hunterian Museum entrance. This is a family friendly event which is suitable for all ages, and you can come along at any time between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

Tickets are completely free, but as numbers are limited we would encourage you to register soon.

If you have any queries or would like to discuss accessibility, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch at confucius-enquiries@glasgow.ac.uk.
