Cochno Farm, Glasgow University’s very own farm (did you know we had one?) is having an open day on Wednesday, June 14th between approximately 10-15.00 (agenda to be confirmed).

Cochno Farm and Research Centre extends across 850 acres of land to the west of Glasgow, just north of Clydebank.

The farm encompasses broadleaf woodland, pasture land, moorlands, lochs, rivers and burns, farm buildings and research centre, as well as the magnificent Cochno House - a former stately home built in 1757.

The farm has primarily served as a training and research facility for veterinarians. The land is given over to mixed livestock farming; cattle (meat and dairy) and sheep. It is integral to teaching undergraduates in one of the world's leading Veterinary Courses.

Cochno is also the site of the University’s Cochno Community Garden where university staff can socialise with families, grow vegetables and experience the great outdoors.

Fit for the future

Cochno Farm plays a vital, core role in veterinary teaching and research at the University. However, we (the Cochno Farm Steering Group) believe there is unrealised potential in terms of research, teaching, conservation, sustainability, regeneration, and more, across multiple disciplines from physical, to social as well as biological sciences. This is especially true in the context of the twin biodiversity and climate crises and the UK’s commitment towards Net Zero.

Next year the University will have owned the farm for 70 years, over these 70 years the farm has been central to Undergraduate Vet student teaching. We would like you, as part of the wider University community to become integral to Cochno Farm story over the next 70 years and share this fabulous resource with the vet students.

Open day

Seeing is believing. We (the farm steering group) would love to invite you along to an Open Day at the farm on June 14th to see what the farm has to offer and how you can become part of the farm community.

The plan is congregate, drink coffee, form multidisciplinary groups and head off on a walk around the farm, brainstorming as we go (the break-out). We then return for a hearty lunch to present our ideas for opportunities on the farm (the break-in). Your input will help shape the future direction of the farm.
