The schools are off and we have plenty to entertain you in the ARC this September weekend! At our family fun day you can learn about viruses, play retro arcade games, hear storytelling from award-winning author Emily Dodd and peer down microscopes. All events are FREE!
There will be food trucks onsite for pizza and refreshments.
11:00-11:50 - Join CBeebies screenwriter (Tiny Wonders, Nina and the Neurons) and children's author Emily Dodd for a fabulous interactive storytelling session with her picture book, Crime Squirrel Investigators. Rosie’s secret hazelnut store has been ransacked and her best friend Charlie agrees to help her to find the naughty nut thief. Discover the different ways animals eat nuts with songs, science, woodpecker hip-hop and a water squirting squirrel. 12:00-15:00 – Explore science, gaming and art through colourful, fun activities for all ages. Play with Minecraft on a giant screen and learn about current research in gaming. We’ll also have retro games on-site, from SNES to guitar hero, courtesy of R-Cade. Inspire the scientists of the future by learning about the latest biology and engineering research. Play with virtual reality in our VR escape room.
14:00-15:00 – Cbeebies writer Emily Dodd joins us for a second storytelling session. a Enjoy a rocket themed storytelling session with Emily’s brand new book: Surfing the Moon. Jack knows he’s different from other kids – he doesn’t think the way they do. Jack’s love of the moon leads him on a courageous journey into the sea. This is a story about neurodiversity, finding new friends, facing your fears and following your dreams. At the end of the event, there will be a short, fun craft activity making some mini-rockets.
