Party like it’s 1797! Bring your dancing shoes for this revival and reimagining of the 18th-century dance band, featuring dances and music by the Black British composer, writer and abolitionist Ignatius Sancho (c. 1729-1780), alongside tunes by Scottish female composers Catherine White (fl. 1800), Isabella Scott (1786-1838) and Sophia Parker. After a concert performance, we will lay out the ballroom for an 18th-century ceilidh, featuring Sancho’s own country dances.
The Ballroom Sessions have been made possible thanks to generous funding from Continuo Foundation and the Hope Scott Trust.
