The late Sir Alexander Stone, Glasgow solicitor and bibliophile, was a benefactor to the University. His belief in the skill of oratory led to his sponsoring lectureships in rhetoric and bibliophily.

Cameron McNeish is one of the UK's best known outdoor commentators. A mountaineer, author of twenty books and a television presenter Cameron has climbed and hiked throughout the world but his heart remains positively fixed in Scotland. 'There's Always the Hills' is the title of his award-winning autobiography which has inspired the title of his talk 'There's Always the Hills - a lifetime of books and wild places'.
