Course Aims
The aims of this course are to:
■ explore in-depth real life clinical applications of imaging;
■ explain the importance, capabilities and limitations of imaging in diagnostics, treatment planning and monitoring and surgical intervention;
■ describe recent and emerging developments in imaging physics.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of a range of advanced medical imaging techniques, evaluate when they should be applied, and their relevance in the planning and execution of therapy;
2. Explain the physical principles relevant to a range of advanced medical imaging and therapy techniques;
3. Evaluate the utility of various advanced imaging techniques for the purposes of diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring and surgical intervention;
4. Describe how the integration of more than one imaging techniques may be accomplished and used in treatment planning;
5. Apply the ideas and techniques developed in the lectures to solve problems of imaging co-registration;
6. Discuss ethical, inclusion and societal aspects of medical imaging technology.
