Short Description
his course, which enables students to reach the A1.2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, is for students who have completed Language 1 or have some prior knowledge of the language. The four fundamental skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) continue to be developed. Additional grammar points and vocabulary are introduced and students continue to expand their awareness of French culture.

Requirements of Entry
A grade of D3 or above in LANGCTR1029 or MFL1059 or LANGCTR1050 or MFL1060, or at the discretion of the Programme Director.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Examination (1-hour duration) - 60%
■ Oral Exam (5 minutes) - 20%
■ Timed assessment - 5%
■ Written assignment - 15%

■ There is no alternative to the examination, but extra time and/or a separate room may be offered as reasonable adjustment (students should follow the usual process for examination arrangements).
■ An invigilated online oral examination as an alternative to the oral exam.

Course Aims
This course will provide the opportunity to:
■ build on students' foundation in spoken and written French;
■ widen students' knowledge of French grammar and linguistic structures;
■ familiarise students with further aspects of French culture and society.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Show understanding of written materials on various topics or subjects;
■ Read and write French texts on a variety of topics;
■ Converse in routine situations and describe these in simple but effective terms
