This course introduces students to key concepts in electronics. The students will develop theoretical and practical understanding of analogue and digital electronics, including operational amplifiers and transistors.
One meeting, 2 hours per week.

One exam (60%); Class Set Exercises (class tests) (40%)

This programme will introduce students to baseline knowledge and understanding of principles, laws and concepts that enable them to analyse, design and test a range of analogue and digital circuits.
This course enables students to have the knowledge to meet the GTCS Standard for Provisional Registration as follows:

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Describe the relationship between voltage, current and resistance and apply this numerically to solve a range of problems.
■ Describe Kirchoff's Current and Voltage Laws and apply these numerically to solve a range of problems.
■ Systematically analyse selected circuits to establish magnitudes for common electrical quantities including voltage, current, resistance and power.
■ Describe common applications for logic gates circuits and relate these to logic functions.
■ Identify a range of common operational amplifier configurations/circuits and explain their core operating principles.
■ Identify a range of common transistor types and circuits.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must have an 80% attendance or better at all timetabled classes. Students must achieve at least a D3 grade. Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
