Short Description
The Independent Project enables students to undertake a period of independent research on a Global Cultural Enterprise topic of their choosing. The research will be on a specific case study, subject or issue within the field, will demonstrate knowledge of relevant scholarship in the field, and will apply methods of data collection, analysis and interpretation appropriate for the project. The output of this project will include both written work and a multimedia output.

Independent research supported by meetings with supervisor.
Requirements of Entry
Standard entry to Masters at College level.
A candidate will be permitted to progress to preparation of the independent project only if they have obtained a grade point average of 12 (equivalent to C3) or above in the taught courses with at least 75% of the credits at grade D3 or better and all credits at grade F or above.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Project output / report (5000 words) - 50%
■ Engagement output (10 slides, 5 mins video or equivalent as agreed) - 50%

■ There is no alternative to the project output, but a flexible deadline and extra time can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)

This course aims to:
■ Develop students' personal research interest in a chosen topic relevant to global cultural enterprise
■ Provide an opportunity to develop resources relevant to professional and academic communities
■ Develop students' abilities to create multimedia engagement resources
■ Foster students' abilities to write critically and theoretically informed text
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Conceptualize and execute a piece of independent research in the domain of global cultural enterprise
■ Demonstrate knowledge of relevant scholarship in the field
■ Critically analyse evidence from a range of academic and industry sources
■ Present sustained arguments in both written and multimedia form, tailored for professional, public and/or academic audiences
