Short Description

This course develops practical experience and skills in preparation of the Independent Project for Global Cultural Enterprise. It centres on guided and independent practice-based research assignments that relate to key processes for development and implementation of arts and culture organisations. Students will develop a portfolio of individual pieces of work, such as a review, a written project pitch for a funding application or business plan, a strategy or policy evaluation document, and an audience information text for a cultural project.

Assessment

The standard assessments for this course are:

■ Portfolio of 4 individual pieces (2500 words) - 100%

 

If required, for instance where a disability prevents a student from undertaking a specific method of assessment, the following alternatives are available:

■ There is no alternative to the portfolio of 4 individual pieces, but a flexible deadline and extra time can be offered as reasonable adjustments (students should follow the usual process for extensions)

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Foster students' understanding of the practices and processes involved in cultural enterprise

■ Develop students' practice and research skills in preparation for undertaking an independent research project in global cultural enterprise

■ Support students' employability skills and prospects

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Apply a range of techniques and methods to meet research and industry needs in the cultural sector

■ Evaluate the processes, operations and outcomes of cultural organisations and practitioners

■ Produce effective, tailored communication for the cultural sector, in the form of reports, critiques, evaluations or other documents

■ Write in a variety of modes, such as reviews, project pitches, and strategy documents
