Short Description
This course critically interrogates enterprise practices in arts and cultural industries. The course will present critical frameworks for understanding enterprise in these sectors within a global diverse economies framework, with particular attention paid to socially engaged and alternative models of production. Lectures will present critical debates in enterprise practices across arts and culture disciplines, such as visual arts, music, fashion and performance, while workshops will focus on the in-depth critical interrogation of enterprise models from local and global contexts, offering the chance to apply and critically think with theoretical debates.

Assessment
The standard assessments for this course are:
■ Essay (2500 words) - 40%
■ Proposal (2500 words) - 40%
■ Group Presentation (10 minutes) - 20%

This course aims to:
■ Provide a comprehensive introduction to enterprise practices in arts and cultural industries within a global context
■ Provide students with an understanding of various models of cultural enterprise, with particular attention paid to socially engaged and alternative models of production
■ Introduce students to the diverse economies framework as a means of understanding cultural industries
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Analyse enterprise activities in a variety of artistic and cultural disciplines
■ Contextualise enterprise culture within labour markets, policy contexts, and artistic and cultural traditions
■ Critically engage with interdisciplinary scholarship on cultural enterprise and apply it to real cases
■ Produce sustained arguments in oral and written form about enterprise in arts and cultural domains
