Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Conference

Following a successful inaugural MVLS EDI conference in October 2024, the MVLS EDI committee is pleased to announce that the second MVLS EDI conference is taking place on Wednesday 5th November 2025 (9.30-5pm) in the Advanced Research Centre. This conference aims to highlight EDI research activity and EDI in action from across the College. The conference will be delivered in person. Online access will be available for attendees. Registration details will be published in due course.

Call for Abstracts

The MVLS EDI committee is pleased to announce that abstract submission is now live. This conference covers a range of themes, and we are accepting abstract submissions in all areas of EDI that cover Research, Knowledge in Practice and Table-Top Exhibits. We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants an we encourage submissions from all members of the MVLS community.

Abstract submission

All abstracts are to be submitted electronically via form on or before Monday 30th June 2025 at midnight.

Your abstract text should be no more than the 500 words.

Oral and poster presentations

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes and will be grouped into sessions based on the themes with 5 minutes for questions. Poster presentation will be displayed on a portable wall. During the lunch break the author(s) of the poster will accompany it, to answer questions that people have.

All submissions should fall under one of the following Categories:

Research

These are in the form of summary of an original research work involving the collection and analysis of primary data or knowledge reviews.

Research abstracts should aim to include the following:

  • Rationale and aims/objectives.
  • Methods, such as experiment, systematic review, survey, interview study, observational study
  • Findings/results
  • Conclusions and recommendations

Knowledge in practice

Knowledge in practice abstracts present a summary of projects conducted. This can include a summary of an EDI initiative implemented and evaluated for effectiveness, best practice, or the results of a pilot research activity.

Knowledge in Practice abstracts should include the following:

  • Rationale and aims/objectives
  • Description of the processes used in the projects
  • Benefits of the project

Tabletop exhibitions

Tabletop exhibits allow for showcasing of resources developed and may include for e.g. Posters/pamphlets created as part of EDI awareness campaigns, training materials, digital resources/apps.

Abstract should include the following:

  • A description of the type of resources
  • A rationale for the developed resources
  • Benefits of the resources

Oral and poster presentations

Applicants will be notified via email if their abstracts have been accepted for presentation by Friday 29th August.
